Orlando Pirates DDC coach Roscoe Krieling believes Mpho Padime’s flair can become a valuable asset for the Buccaneers if it is channelled correctly.

The 19-year-old winger earned promotion to the senior squad this season following an impressive DDC campaign, scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists.

Padime made his senior debut in August when Pirates recorded a 3-0 MTN8 victory over Sekhukhune United.

Known for his dribbling and showboating, Padime has already displayed glimpses of his flair.

However, Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has warned that such skills must be used with purpose and should contribute to the team rather than simply being for show.

According to Krieling, that is something the DDC coaching staff worked on with Padime. He believes they found an effective way to utilise the youngster’s natural flair and expects him to make an impact for the senior team as he gets more minutes.

“At the end of the day, Mpho needs to find his balance,” said Krieling.

“He was very flash at the start; we got him to use his flair to fight the right way. When he uses it the right way, he’s very effective.

“He’s also still trying to find a space in the first team which will take time. At the right time, he will expose himself. With more time, he can be effective in the first team.”
