Durban City have announced Eric Tinkler as their new head coach replacing Khalil Ben Youssef, as first reported by iDiski Times.

City released Ben Youssef after seven games in which they won one, drew four, and lost two. The Tunisian also led City to the second round of the CAF Confederations Cup.

Tinkler on the other hand left Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko after just three months into the head coach role to return to Mzansi.

Despite his brief spell in Ghana, the former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City mentor has already tasted success after claiming his first trophy in Accra with the 2026 Democracy Cup triumph.

The Porcupine Warriors beat fierce rivals Accra Hearts of Oak 4-1 on penalties in the third edition of the prestigious football showdown at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi late in August.

The Nedbank Cup champions have now announced the appointment of Tinkler who will be in charge of the Citizens for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign.

“Durban City FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Tinkler as the Club’s new Head Coach,” the club stated.

Tinkler himself expressed his excitement at joining the Durban City project, especially their participation in the CAF Confederation Cup.

“I’m excited to be part of what is being built here at Durban City FC,” he said.

“The club is very ambitious, they have made positive strides in a short space of time, competing in the CAF Confederation Cup already, and that made my decision easy.”
