Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City have set their sights on 2026 Varsity Cup Player of the Tournament, Akani Rathokoa.
IDiski Times has it on good authority that City are pursuing Rathokoa, who helped Tshwane University of Technology to lift their fifth Varsity Cup.
The 24-year-old was a menace to defenders throughout the tournament, scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 final win over University of Pretoria.
City seem to have won the race, as Rathokoa was wanted by the likes of Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants before being convinced to come down to Cape Town and join the Citizens for training.
Rathokoa is expected to arrive at Cape Town International Airport this Monday and start training with the club during the week under the watchful eye of Andries Ulderink.
City have a good history of signing players from the Varsity Cup, having previously signed Heaven Sereetsi from North-West University, who is now on the books of Kruger United.
