Former Kaizer Chiefs player Aden McCarthy scored his first goal for Sabah FK in their UEFA Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund.

McCarthy, 22, started his third successive Champions League game, and left his mark on the competition on Tuesday evening.

The Amakhosi academy product netted his side’s 1-1 equaliser against Bundesliga giants Dortmund. Serhou Guirassy had scored the opener after just 10 minutes, but whoever Sabah would be their for the taking got it wrong.

The home side equalised through a header from McCarthy in the 39th minute, scoring his first-ever goal for his new club.

However, Guirassy restored Dortmund’s lead in the 53rd, scoring his 23rd goal in the competition.

Sabah had limited chances to find another equaliser, with Dortmund being slightly wasteful and as a consequence keeping the game open.

In the end, though, BVB secured the three points and their second win in the competition this season, while Sabah remained on three points in their first-ever UCL campaign.

The Azerbaijani champions are already playing a historic UCL campaign after coming through all four qualifying rounds to secure their spot in the league phase.
