Durban City coach Eric Tinkler has opened up on guiding the Citizens into the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Durban-based side secured qualification with a commanding 6-1 aggregate victory over Mauritian outfit AS Port-Louis 2000 in the second preliminary round.

Tinkler was impressed by his players’ approach to the tie, praising their ability to remain focused and produce another convincing performance away from home.

“I’m very pleased with the performance. We came here knowing we had a job to do, despite winning the first leg, and the players approached the game with the right mentality,” said Tinkler.

“We were disciplined, clinical in front of goal and managed the game well.

“This is a very important achievement for Durban City FC. It’s our first-ever continental campaign, and reaching the group stages is a proud moment for the Club, the players, the technical team and everyone who has supported us. We’re delighted, but we also know there is more work ahead.”

The Citizens turn their focus to domestic cup action as they prepare to take on Stellenbosch in the Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday.
