Mokoena Feels Confident Ahead Of City Clash

Swallows FC are targeting revenge against Cape Town City who thrashed them 4-0 earlier this season, according to captain Lebohang Mokoena.

The Dube Birds visit the 10th placed Citizens in Cape Town on Saturday, while they sit 13th, with only six points separating the teams.

While Mokoena is mindful of the challenge the Citizens pose in their DStv Premiership clash, he feels they’ve prepared adequately to secure a positive result.

“I think a very difficult one, and having come from a difficult match of Pirates, I think it’s another tough one against Cape Town City,” said Mokoena ahead of the match.

“But the team is prepared and ready to go there and get maximum points. That’s what we need now.

“Of course, having lost against them always leaves that bitter taste. But I think we have it at the back of our minds that we are playing a team that can beat you on any given day.

“But we also have the capability of turning things around. And hopefully, we’ll do that. I think they owe us one. For us, it’s about getting there and getting the maximum points.”

The skipper also believes that the arrival of new coach Dylan Kerr made a huge change, and players are confident enough ahead of the match.

“Well, it’s just the process, I think it’s what happens in every football club, when a new coach comes in, the environment changes, the atmosphere has changed a bit in terms of the confidence and the players and the belief of the players,” Mokwena said.

“Players are starting to believe in themselves now, and not that it was a bit different. But I think the changes as made, other players realize and believe that they can maybe contribute to the team or get an opportunity to play.

“What’s happening in the training, methods, of course, have changed. And it’s been maybe two weeks now with the coach, training has been different. And we try to adjust, I mean, the intensity is gone a little high, tactics are a bit different.

“So it takes up for a time to adjust to,, and it’s starting to show with a few matches that we have played. Definitely going forward, maybe we’ll start getting many goals because I think that was just one of our concerns in the team.”

Swallows are set to face Eric Tinkler’s side at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening at 20h30.
