Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu was recalled to the Amiens first-team starting line-up in an impressive victory in the Coupe de France.
Zungu, who’s been featuring for the club’s reserve team in the fifth-tier in a bid to return to full fitness earned his first run out for the senior side in over a year.
Amiens beat Guingamp 3-2 in the French League Cup round of 32 on Saturday evening, with Zungu earning 87 minutes of game time on the field of play.
It bodes well for the 28-year-old who looked poised to be frozen out of the squad after signalling his intention to leave at the end of his contract in July.
Zungu has been linked with a return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with Kaizer Chiefs but has often reiterated his desire to remain in Europe.
And his chances of that could well be improved with first-team football seemingly back on offer at the French r side who are 12th in Ligue 2 and 14 points behind league leaders Ajaccio with 20 rounds of fixtures remaining.
