JDR Stars forward Ishmael Wadi who was named in the Zimbabwe squad for the AFCON says he is happy to represent his home country again.
Wadi has been presented with another perfect opportunity to show that he is capable of commanding a place in the Warriors team after his splendid display in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The in-form goal-poacher has appeared three times in the Zimbabwe’s team during the World Cup qualifiers – and says he is ready to help his side go far in the Africa’s elite tournament.
“I’m happy to represent my country, I’m really, really happy,” Wadi told iDiski Times.
“We did not make it to World Cup, so now we shift our focus to AFCON, I hope we’ll do good in Cameroon.
“I worked with him [Norman Mapeza] back home at FC Platinum and working with him again it feels great, and it is easy for me because l know what he wants.
“l appreciate him for playing me in previous FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the whole 90 minutes. You know I have been getting call-ups, but I could not play, so I’m happy now.”
The 29-year-old player and the Warriors were drawn in Group B alongside Senegal, Malawi and Guinea. They kick off their campaign in Cameroon against the Lions of Teranga on Monday, January 10.
