Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has opened up on his first Soweto Derby experience, when he saved several penalties of Orlando Pirates.
The Amakhosi shot-stopper faced the Buccaneers for a first time in Chiefs colours in the Carling Black Label Cup, and saved two spot-kicks as the game ended 4-3 on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes.
Though Petersen came off the bench to replace Intumeleng Khune for the last 20 minutes of the match in the pre-season cup, the 27-year-old says he gained a lot of experience.
“My experience as far has been amazing, the derby is something you want to play,” he told club’s media department.
“Looking at the past and the types of players who came out at the derby, it’s very inspiring.
“I played 20 minutes in the derby, and it was amazing, it was a great experience for me and obviously going to the penalties and saving those penalties you are always high when it goes to penalties.
“Me I love it, because I like intimidating and so on.
“My first derby was a great experience, and I’m looking forward to many more.”
The Glamour Boy has only featured once in the DStv Premiership so far, making a total of two appearances since he joined the club – and he says he is eagerly awaiting for more Soweto derbies.
