AmaZulu FC coach Benni McCarthy has revealed the name of the Argentine player they wanted to sign and why they missed out on getting him.
Usuthu have signed two players in the January transfer window, Abbubaker Mobara from Cape Town City and Manyiek ‘Abraham’ Majok who last played for Cyprus side PAAEK.
McCarthy, though, says there is a player he wanted to add into his midfield department, but it couldn’t happen due to some certain circumstances.
“Facundo Juárez everyone knows that was my marque signing, marque player that I wanted,” McCarthy told reporters.
“Some complications and then the player suffered an injury as well throughout the mid-season, so we don’t know the length of how serious the injury is.
“So the club felt like they didn’t want to risk all the resources on getting the player, and maybe he’s not at the level where I wanted him to be, and then you got to get him right, and you want to bring him in, and you want to bring him to hit the ground running.
“You bring him in, and now you got to do rehab, and it’s two, three months that I can’t afford to have the player that you desire, but you can’t use him because he’s injured, so there were a lot of factors, so we didn’t get that.”
The Usuthu mentor has admitted he wanted to add some quality players despite January transfer window not being his favorite time—and he is also happy with what they have.
