It was another exciting day at the 2022 Bayhill Premier Cup on Saturday, with Lukhanyo Ngcongca, the brother of the late Anele Ngcongca, scoring a hat-trick, as the under-19 teams progressed to today’s quarter-finals.
After the culmination of the group stages in the early parts of the day, the last sixteen was decided, which produced a ‘final-before-the-final’ encounter as two of the favourites Ubuntu Academy and Cape Town City were drawn against each other.
And it was 2019 Engen winners (and last year’s runners-up) Ubuntu who would progress in a tightly contested affair against City, winning 1-0
Earlier in the day, unfancied Hanover Park produced the biggest win of the week to book their place in the last 16, as they beat City Strikers 9-1. Lukhanyo Ngcongca, the brother of the late Anele Ngcongca, scoring a hat-trick. Hanover Park progressed to the quarter-finals, beating Rebels FC 1-0 in the last 16.

Defending champions Highlands Park also booked their place after winning a penalty shootout against FN Rangers.
Another tournament favourite Stellenbosch also had a good Saturday, keeping their 100% win rate at Erica Park, as they scored a 4-0 victory over the University of Pretoria. Stellies also has a familiar name in their line-up with Rushine De Reuck’s younger brother, Rayden in the squad.
Also through are Cape Town Spurs, JL Zwane, Bayhill United and Virginia Academy.
