Lamontville Golden Arrows interim coaches Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza are set to lead Abafana Bes’thende for the first time this coming weekend when they host Sekhukhune United.
A week ago Lamontville Golden Arrows sacked coach Lehlohonolo Seema after 6-0 defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns which was a new record loss in history of the club.
The KZN-based side is now sitting just outside the top eight with 31 points, just three points behind 8th placed SuperSport United.
Former Arrows MDC coaches Vilakazi and Khenyeza were appointed as interim coaches until end of the season. Vilakazi has explained the importance of having a solid defence and how good it is for the club to finish in a decent position at the end of the season.
“We are looking forward to our game against Sekhukhune United over the weekend. We know very well that it’s not going to be an easy game considering the fact that both teams, we’ve been struggling to get that three points in our few past games. So one has to work very hard on the day in order to be victorious,” Vilakazi told the media.
“But we are looking forward to that game on Saturday and as Golden Arrows we are ready. We’ve been preparing accordingly with the coach Mabuti Khenyeza. Obviously focusing on certain aspects of our game specifically which is a defensive structure or shape.
“We are coming from a loss when we’ve conceded six goals against Mamelodi Sundowns. So it is a worrying factor for us because in order for you to win the game, you must be strong defensively. So we’ve been working on our defence throughout the week, helping our players and also working on their psychological aspect in terms of the changes that we have in the team.
“Obviously the atmosphere is looking good and players are looking refreshed because we are trying to bring the bigger picture or show them the bigger picture in terms of how important it is for a team to find itself in a decent position come end of the season. So we are happy with the response of the players they are responding very well they are hungry, they are happy for an opportunity ahead of them.
“And so we will try by all means to dominate on the weekend, we are playing at home we must take advantage of that. We are playing against a side that we know is a hard working team. They are good in certain aspects of the game transition wise from defence to attack.
“They go forward, they are quick. They go forward with numbers but we will capitalize after dealing with them we will capitalize in on their weaknesses as called an arrows and in a in order to find ourselves having joy on the day. So we will try by all means, we’ve seen them and just to get the picture of what we need to be done on the day from our side and we will try by all means to get the three points we are playing at home. It is very important to us.”
Golden Arrows are set to face 10th-placed Sekhukhune on Saturday at 15h00.
