Tinkler Bemoans City Nedbank Cup Loss

Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says he was disappointed with the loss his side suffered against Royal AM, but he insisted he was still satisfied with the team’s display.

The Citizens crushed out of the Nedbank Cup last 32 at the hands of Royal AM after a 2-1 loss at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

The disappointed Tinkler was also not happy with the manner in which the referee officiated at some point—putting a blame to the referee for the second goal.

“Obviously, a massive disappointment in the loss, but I cannot fault the work ethic of the players today, I can fault the way we conceded the equaliser because we should have dealt with a cross better, we sold ourselves.” Tinkler said after the match.

“It was a little too easy for them to get themselves back in the game, but I think that was the only I remember Hugo (Marques) to make one another save, so we scored the first goal and then the second one, we leave that one to the referee to explain.

“But It’s disappointing, the last two games, I feel for the players because they didn’t deserve to lose either the SuperSport game, or this game. But that’s the world of football in our country now.

“The standard is simply not good enough, in my opinion, that needs to be a lot better. Now, we got to turn our focus to Chiefs on Tuesday.

“I’m trying to put on a good performance but knowing that not everything is in our hands unfortunately, so seeing others, so we try to concentrate on ourselves and work on ourselves. It’s a bit difficult when you see what’s happening.”

The Citizens will shift their focus to the DStv Premiership as they host Kaizer Chiefs at Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday at 19:30.
