The mayor of Sedhiou Town in Senegal, Adboulaye Diop has revealed that the region’s football stadium will be named after African and Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane.
The 29-year-old will now have a stadium named after him as an honour from the Senegalese government after his side’s victory over Egypt in the finals of Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The Mayor has praised Mane for his contribution to soccer in his region, and to the entire community of Bambali where the AFCON Player of the Tournament hails from.
“Sadio Mane has honoured all of Senegal, the Sedhiou region and the entire Casamance area,” Diop said as per Liverpoolecho.co.uk.
“I have decided to name the Sedhiou stadium after him. In doing, so I wish to convey the gratitude of all the sons and daughters of the region towards him.
“He has made all of the mankind aware of Bambali and Sedhiou, the region’s main town. This is a gift that Sadio Mane truly deserves.”
The news comes after Mane and his teammates all were promised two plots of land and R1.3 million in prize money from the government.
