Stellies & Chiefs Line-Ups Confirmed

Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed their starting line-ups for today’s MTN8 quarter-final.

Another debutant, Stellenbosch hosts the team who have taken home the most super-eight trophies overall. Chiefs have been champions on 15 occasions, but only twice since the re-branding, and the last time was eight years ago.

While Chiefs are slightly ahead in the head-to-head history, with three wins, three draws and two losses, it should be noted that two of Chiefs’ wins came in Nedbank Cup victories when Stellenbosch were still in the second tier. Stellies’ two wins were both achieved last season, and they will be hoping that run continues.

The injury of Ashley Du Preez almost robbed this fixture of some of it’s romanticism, but  the young man from Stellenbosch recovered to return to his hometown, and Chiefs also fielded Zitha Kwinika, who was the Cape Winelands team’s Player of the Season in the last campaign.

Du Preez scored the winning goal for Stellies last year, while his cousin Deano Van Rooyen, who is still with Barker’s team, bagged the winner when the two teams met earlier this year.
