Former FC Barcelona head coach Gerardo Martino says he will do everything possible to eliminate Argentina from the FIFA World Cup today.
The Argentine coach, whom Lionel Messi personally vouched for to become the leader of the Spanish giants back in 2013, leads the Mexicans against his home nation this evening.
And with Messi and co suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia, defeat, would send them home with a game to spare.
“What would you do in my place? I know where I was born, I’ll tell you the year, the name of the hospital, the city’s area code,” Martino said in the pre-match press conference, as per ESPN. “But I have to do everything possible for Mexico to win.”
‘Tata’ admits keeping Messi quiet this evening will be a massive challenge, hailing him as the best footballer in the world.
“Stopping him, it happens more often because he’s having a bad afternoon than what we can do,” Martino said. “The best footballer in the last 15 years, at least.”
