Middendorp Furious With Man Of The Match Pick

Swallows coach Ernst Middendorp was furious with TS Galaxy midfielder Mlungisi Mbunjana receiving the Man of the Match award after his side’s goalless draw with the Rockets.

The Dube Birds collected one point despite playing for almost an entire half with just 10 men after Gregory Damons got sent off in the 48th minute for a foul on Mbunjana.

After the match, Middendorp stated he was surprised to see the Galaxy midfielder walk away with the Man of the Match award, despite his “acting” when Damons got sent off.

“For me a little bit of a surprise that the biggest actor on the site gets the award of the match,” he stated.

“Gregory Damons, he doesn’t even know how to foul. He was late in this moment, yes, but sorry to give a red card for this. Really…

“And then you award this in the end of the day? Sorry. It’s really an influence coming into this direction.”

Middendorp was also irked by the referee’s decision to rule a potential late winner by Waseem Isaacs due to offside, with tv replays showing it was the wrong call by the linesman.

“Then, of course, we scored a goal, a clear goal, the ball was already over the line and then to find an argument,” he added.

“Sorry, I don’t know which influence power came into this direction of this four guys but something went wrong in the last 24 hours – probably they didn’t sleep enough in the last 24 hours, or too much…”

The point kept Swallows behind Galaxy, with the Dube Birds on 17 points from 16 games, while the Rockets have 19 points.

Swallows return to action on Friday when they will face in-form Sekhukhune United.
