Pirates Make It Three In A Row

Orlando Pirates have won three successive league games for the first time under Jose Riveiro this season after beating Marumo Gallants 2-0.

Pirates dominated proceedings in the first half but failed to really threat the goal of Ismail Watenga for large parts.

However, the Buccaneers eventually turned their dominance into something tangible when Terrence Dzvukamanja, who received a rare start, put the ball on a platter for Monnapule Saleng inside the box.

The second half was much of the same, even though Gallants tried to open up a bit more but failed to cause Sipho Chaine any serious heart aches.

The game was all but decided when Bandile Shandu was brought down inside the Gallants box to earn a penalty in the 68th minute.

Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo stepped up against his former club and converted from the spot to give Pirates a two-goal cushion.

The win sees the Sea Robbers close the gap on third-placed SuperSport United to just one point after they drew 0-0 with Swallows earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Gallants remain rock-bottom with just 15 points and are now winless in eight successive matches.

They have played two games more than their relegation rivals but are four points away from the 14th position.
