Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi side have again re-climbed to the top of the log after winning another match late in the game.
Mosimane’s side picked up their 11th win over the last 13 games and re-climbed to the top of the log thanks to a 1-0 win over 12th-placed Al Ain.
They now sit on 58 points, two ahead of Al Akhdood, while former leaders Al Hazem again dropped points after playing back-to-back draws.
The game was rare on talking points for large parts but flared up after the 70th minute. First Abdulbaset Al-Hindi saw red for Al Ahli bin the 71st minute before Al Ain had Yassen Hamza and Lahouari Touil sent off in the 76th minute as the game continued with 10 vs 9 players.
Just five minutes later, Marcao missed a penalty for Mosimane’s men, but he made up for with a 89th minute winner. In the end, Al Ahli carried the three points over the line in a match that had 14 minutes of injury-time.
Al Ahli now sit 16 points ahead of the first non-promotion spot on the log, which is currently held by Al Arabi with seven games left to be played. At current rate, Mosimane and his side could secure promotion with three more wins.
Overall, Mosimane has picked up 14 wins, six draws and just two defeats since taking charge of Al Ahli.
