Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena has been named 2022/23 PSL Footballer of the Season during Sunday night’s awards gala.
Mokoena’s contribution for Sundowns this season goes far beyond being measured in stats, as he established himself as one of the best midfielders on the continent.
This award was voted for by the 16 DStv Premiership coaches, who cleared thought the Sundowns star had a standout campaign across all competitions in 2022/23.
He beat his Sundowns teammate Ronwen Williams and Orlando Pirates’ winger Monnapule Saleng to the award, with both having an incredible campaign as well.
Saleng can look back at an outstanding season during which he lifted two trophies and steered Pirates into second place in the DStv Premiership.
Williams broke the league’s clean sheet previously held by Moeneeb Josephs after keeping 18 clean sheets in 26 clean sheets.
Note: All nominations and voting were done by the Premier Division head coaches. Only one head coach per club was allowed to vote and coaches were not allowed to nominate or vote for their own teammate.
