Pitso Mosimane has won his second official match in charge of United Arab Emirates side Al Wahda FC, and all-but-secured their place in the knockout stages of the Arab Club Champions Cup.
Mosimane’s Al Wahda beat CR Belouizdad 2-1 on Monday to make it two wins from two matches and go to six points in Group D.
It has put them in pole position to qualify for the quarter-finals, which could be confirmed later on Monday, unless Kuwait SC would beat Josef Zinnbauer’s Raja Club Athletic side, which would mean the final round of fixtures would decide which two teams would qualify from the group.
Mosimane’s men scored the opener just before the break, with Facundo Kruspzky scoring his firs goal of the tournament.
Al Wahda made it 2-0 after 61 minutes, when new signing Cristian Guanca found the back of the net against the Algerian Ligue 1 champions. Belouizdad did pull one back in the 84th minute via Aimen Bouguerra, but it was a little too late.
It’s a positive start for Mosimane at his new club, who will face Moroccan giants Raja in their final group match.
Zinnbauer and Mosimane faced each other twice during the German tactician’s stint with Orlando Pirates, with the now Raja coach collecting a 0-0 and 1-0 win over the former Sundowns boss.
Should Zinnbauer’s Raja beat Kuwait SC later on Monday, both his side and Al Wahda would also ready have booked their ticket in the quarter-finals with one game to spare.
