Many Kaizer Chiefs are hoping to see new signing Sibongiseni Mthethwa against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final second leg today, but the midfielder is cup-tied.
Mthethwa, 29, was unveiled by Amakhosi on Thursday morning.
However, he won’t feature against Downs on Saturday because he is cup-tied after playing for Stellenbosch in the 1-0 quarter-final win over SuperSport United and also their semi-final first leg against Orlando Pirates.
As a consequences, he is cup-tied, as per the PSL rules (see 8.2).
But even if Mthethwa wasn’t cup-tied he would’ve likely not featured this weekend after Chiefs stated he will only officially join his new teammates on Monday.
Mthethwa left Stellenbosch after Chiefs activated his buyout clause. He made 56 appearances for the Winelands club after joining them from Black Leopards in January 2022.
