While the fans picked the Man of the Match for each of the Carling Knockout Cup’s last 16 matches, iDiski Times decided to pick our best XI of the round.
For this selection, the iDiski Times editorial team went with a traditional 4-4-2 formation, and while many of those who won the Man of the Match awards were contenders, in the end, only one of the eight made our final XI.
As goalkeeper, TS Galaxy’s Fiacre Ntwari got the nod. Galaxy advanced beating 2019 champs Mamelodi Sundowns in a penalty shootout, and Ntwari made two excellent saves in the only tie that needed penalties to decide the winner.
At left-back back, Richards Bay’s captain Tshepo Mabua was our selection, after he led his team to victory over Moroka Swallows and assisted in Yabena Mbuthuma’s winning goal.
The right-back position went to another winning captain in Stellenbosch’s Deano Van Rooyen, who led his team to victory over Chippa United.
The centre-back pairing selected is Orlando Pirates’ Olisa Ndah, and Taariq Fielies, with the latter scoring AmaZulu’s winner against Kaizer Chiefs.
Jamie Webber of Sekhukhune United, who knocked out Royal AM and is the only voted Man of the Match winner in the team, is in the heart of the midfield §alongside with Ben Motshwari from AmaZulu.
Oswin Appollis makes the team after he helped Polokwane City beat SuperSport United, grabbing a goal and two assists.
Another captain selected is Golden Arrows’ Nduduzo Sibiya, who got a goal and an assist in Arrows’ victory over Cape Town City.
Up front Pirates’ Kermit Erasmus makes the cut after his goal against Cape Town Spurs, alongside Polokwane’s Hlayisi Chauke, who scored a brace.
