Chippa United Technical Director-turned-assistant coach Vusumuzi ‘Kanu’ Vilakazi hasn’t been at Chippa United training sessions this week.
Vilakazi was appointed as the Technical Director of Chilli boys after resigning at Lamontville Golden Arrows, but he has been working close with head coach Morgan Mammila and appears more as the assistant coach at club.
Kanu has been heavily linked with a move away from Chippa United with various clubs interested in him as head coach – Richards Bay have been one of the clubs that have been linked with the former Arrows midfielder.
Rumours this week have indicated that he has been absent from the Chippa United training sessions, which left Mammila looking after the team alone ahead of their DStv Premiership clash against Cape Town City next week Tuesday.
But latest information received by this publication is that Vilakazi’s absence has nothing to do with the rumours around his future but he traveled back to Durban due to family matters.
At this stage, it is not clear whether he will be back in time for their next league encounter in Cape Town.
The Chilli Boys have only lost one match since Vilakazi joined the club, which was their Carling Knockout Cup clash against Stellenbosch FC.
Meanwhile, they have won two league games and drawn two.
