Cape Town City may have picked up three points on Tuesday against Chippa United, but the club also confirmed losing a key player for the unforeseeable future, adding to their injury list.
City beat Chippa 2-1 at the DHL Stadium, thanks to Khanyisa Mayo’s last minute header, after Thabiso Kutumela’s opening goal had been cancelled out by former City man, Craig Martin.
However, after the game, Eric Tinkler confirmed to iDiski Times that Thato Mokeke will be out with a long-term injury, after fracturing his shin, and they’d had other injuries just 24 hours before the game.
“It wasn’t easy this week,” Tinkler told iDiski Times..
“We lost Thato Mokeke to a long-term injury, he’s fractured his shin. So he’s going to be out for a while. So that was obviously a bad one.
“And then yesterday in the captain’s run both Darwin [Gonzalez] and Thami [Mkhize] picked up knocks. The good thing is it’s not muscle-related injuries, but it’s knocks and those knocks obviously meant a lot of changes.
“And we ended up today with a 19-man squad and that was because I brought Patrick [Fisher] in who just played a couple of days ago, and Shakeel [April] played 60 minutes for the DDC, so we’re a little bit thin at the moment KG, Katlego Mokhouane, is still still out, [Juan] Zapata is still out, [Nathan] Fasika, we know.
“So we have a bit of a long injury list as as things stand at the moment.”
