Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns full-back Khuliso Mudau has highlighted the importance of Hugo Broos and Bafana’s Masandawana spine ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations opener.
Mudau, 28, has quickly turned into one of the key figures of Bafana after initially being overlooked by Broos.
But ever since he’s part of the team he seems to have made the right-back position his own, showing a standout performance in a friendly against Ivory Coast when he kept former Manchester United Wilfred Zaha out of the game.
The Sundowns star has highlighted the importance of Broos, who won the AFCON with Cameroon in 2017.
“He is very important. He is a very good coach. An experienced coach and I believe if we can apply exactly what he wants us to apply, we can make it,” he told CAFOnline.
Mudau also believes that the CAF Champions League experience of the Sundowns block in the national team will help Bafana at this year’s tournament.
“It won’t be an easy group to get out of, but I think we have quality in the squad with players who are young and hungry. We want to make sure that we write history together,” he added.
“I think it will help us a lot to have players who play in the Champions League. You can’t compare it with the local league because the intensity is not the same. So I think it’s going to help us a lot.
“We have been playing together for quite a while now as a team and I am just grateful to be here and want to showcase my talent.”
Bafana kick off their AFCON on Tuesday when they will face Mali, before facing Namibia five days later and rounding off Group E against Tunisia.
