Rulani Gives Update On Mokoena After Missing Out On Esperance Clash

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena gave an update on midfielder Teboho Mokwena after he missed the CAF Champions League first-leg semifinal against ES Tunis.

Mokwena has played more than 40 matches this season, including Bafana Bafana games. The former SuperSport United midfielder suffered an injury against Moroka Swallows after scoring a scorcher to make it 1-0.

Sundowns suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat in Rades, Tunisia in the hands of ES Tunis. Despite creating chances Downs failed to take any of them.

Mokwena explained that the midfield maestro was close to return, but the technical team didn’t want to risk him as they still have many matches to play this season.

“Teboho Mokoena was almost ready but we didn’t want to take that risk, because of the schedule we have going forward, but we’ll see how it goes,” Mokwena told the media.

“How did I find the atmosphere? I think it was electrifying, vibrant – and I think it helped the Esperance team because, in difficult moments, they pushed the time, it’s the first time I’ve seen Sasse, tracking back, and running all the way.

“Normally he doesn’t do that in the games I’ve watched, so credit to the fans for supporting Esperance the team.”
