Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite has brought up Miguel Timm’s name in the Footballer of the Season debate.
Mashamaite, who won the Footballer of the Season award, the Players’ Player of the Season and Absa Premiership Defender of the Season in 2014/15, is one of the most respected footballers in South Africa.
He has recently started a new role with the Football Union of South Africa (FUSA) and spoke about all things concerning his work as well as his former club Chiefs in an exclusive interview in this week’s iDiski Times.
He also discussed the Footballer of the Season topic, saying Mamelodi Sundowns have a lot of potential candidates after their unbeaten league run so far, but he also brought up Timm’s name.
“Well, when we pick the Footballer of the Season, we obviously look at the best-performing teams and Sundowns is head and shoulders above the rest,” he told iDiski Times‘ Lethabo Kganyago.
“But there have been individual players who have performed very well for Pirates. When you mentioned there’s a gap between Chiefs and the other two from the big three, Pirates have shown quality.
“[Patrick] Maswanganyi has been outstanding this season, Miguel [Timm] too, he is one of those understated quality, but he is a great player.
“When you go to Sundowns there are just a lot of players to pick from. So it is going to be a tough one because there are a whole lot of players to choose from but I’d choose from those teams and maybe someone from Stellenbosch.”
