Stellenbosch FC have announced the signing of Kaizer Chiefs academy product Omega Mdaka, as reported by iDiski Times.
Mdaka, 20, has been without a club since Amakhosi terminated his contract in October 2023 for alleged disciplinary issues when he refused to be a ball boy.
However, he’s now been signed by Steve Barker’s side on a long-term contract, as reported by this website last week.
“I feel very excited and grateful to be here because it’s my first professional contract after leaving Chiefs. I feel very excited and a bit nervous, but mostly just excited to get started,” Mdaka told the club’s media team.
“Seeing how Stellenbosch FC gives youngsters a chance in the first team, and how the youngsters grow and develop in the first team, motivated me to want to play for Stellenbosch and to also showcase my talent to the people of the PSL.”
With Stellies playing in five competitions this season, Mdaka has set himself ambitious targets for 2024/25.
“I want to get silverware, and improve as a player. Hopefully, we can compete to win the PSL with the quality of players that we have, get the MTN8, and reach the final of the CAF Confederation Cup,” he added.
“I personally want to offer more assists for goals for our strikers this season and help solidify the defence at the back, and hopefully I can be one of the best young players in the league – those are my objectives for the season.”
Stellies have been busy in the current transfer window period with the addition of players like Sanele Barns from Richards Bay and Lehlohonolo Bradley Mojela from TS Galaxy.
