TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has expressed his full confidence in the Premier Soccer League’s Executive and chairman Irvin Khoza to maintain the standard of the league no matter what happens.
This follows recent media that the league was in advanced talks with a potential new title sponsor which could delay the start of the new season. It is believed that a betting company could replace DStv as the title sponsor, with still a year remaining on their deal with the league.
Sukazi’s side is hosting the inaugural Mpumalanga Premier Cup involving Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, Tanzanian giants Younga FC and Mbambane Swallows. The chairman was asked for clarity on the matter at a press conference to promote the tournament, and said he also discovered the developments in the media.
“If anything of that sort happens I have trust and confidence in my Executive, I have trust and confident in our chairman,” Sukazi told reporters at Mbombela.
“He has done wonderful things over many years. He has done the impossible and I can safely say and rest assure everyone that we are in good hands. So if there is a situation it will be salvaged for sure. We’ll have football next season it’s all what I can say.
“No doubt about it and our league will remain just as prestigious if not more than what it was. I think as football custodians we must hold it at this and afford our league the opportunity to obviously organise themselves. If there will be any kind of transition, give the opportunity to transition us into a new era with a new partner if at all. I think that needs to be the spirit and approach.
“It’s easy sometimes to be hard and criticise things that you are not involved in because the armchair is very comfortable,” Sukazi added.
The Premier Cup is already in full swing with German bundesliga side Augsburg defeating Young Africans 2-1 while The Rockets played to a pulsating 2-2 draw against Swallows in the other fixture.
