Stellies Beat 2nd EPL Side

Stellenbosch FC have collected back-to-back wins at the Premier League Next Generation Cup after beating Aston Villa 1-0 on Friday.

Stellies, who beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 on Thursday, started the game on the back foot, with Aston Villa putting them under massive pressure early on.

Five minutes into the game, Stellies goalkeeper Ah Shene made a good save, tipping a shot over the crossbar.

Villa kept on pushing and Ah Shene made another brilliant save after eight minutes, keeping the game tied.

Just a minute later, Quwan Plaatjies gave Stellenbosch FC another early lead, making it 1-0 with a well-struck shot from outside the box after nine minutes.

Stellies had the ball again in the back of the net five minutes later but Keenan Johanessen was flagged offside.

Evangelos Vellios’ side continued to dominate proceedings and could’ve made it 2-0 after 17 minutes but Villa goalkeeper Sam Lewis came up with a stunning save.

Villa had a chance to equalise from a corner just before the break but the header flew over the cross bar.

Ah Shene again denied Villa nine minutes into the second half, pushing a shot from inside the box over the bar.

Villa kept on pushing but Stellies collected their second win in two days to move to six points and at the top of the log. There was a little downside as the Young Maroons again lost the penalty shootout, going down 3-4.
