Stellenbosch FC, Orlando Pirates, and Cape Town City collected the maximum points this weekend to tighten up the league title race. Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs dropped two points against Richards Bay.
Stellies extended their unbeaten run to four matches after humiliating Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy 5-1. Langelihle Phili was the main man on the day as he scored a hat-trick to seal Stellies’ fourth win of the campaign.
After a match that had goals from every angle between the Stellenbosch and Galaxy, Pirates and Lamontville Golden Arrows took centre stage at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium Saturday. A late second-half penalty from Sphamandla Msezane was enough to seal all three points for the Buccaneers.
Tlou Segolela’s Magesi FC continued to impress after holding Eastern Cape side Chippa United to a 2-2 draw in a mouthwatering clash at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
On Sunday Morning, Polokwane City visited the Malta Park, where teams have been getting roasted by Cape Town City lately. Rise and Shine were another victim after they were hammered 5-2. Recently returned from South Africa’s U20, Jody Ah Shene scored a brace to make sure City bounced back to winning ways.
Midday, Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium was buzzing when AmaZulu FC welcomed SuperSport United. Usuthu took the lead in the 11th minute after Tebogo Mashigo converted from the penalty spot. Nine minutes later, United equalised from the penalty spot through Thabang Mahlangu, who completed his brace just before half-time to make it 2-1. Last season’s DDC top goalscorer completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute, which sealed all three points for Matsatsantsa.
In the last fixture of the day, Richards Bay held Chiefs to a draw in a four-goal thriller. The Natal Rich Boyz in the 29th minute via Nhlonelo Bomelo after a well-taken penalty. At the beginning of the second half Neo Bohloko levelled matters, but six minutes later Thobani Mngomezulu made it 2-1 to Richards Bay. But Chiefs came back again, as Matala Makhubo equalised to make it 2-2 in the 74th minute.
