Tinkler Eyeing A Trophy This Season

Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler sees the Carling Knockout Cup as an opportunity to clinch a trophy this season.

Tinkler is in his third season with City and he has yet to win a trophy. They had a chance in the MTN8 earlier this season but were knocked out in the semi-final by Orlando Pirates.

The blue side of Cape Town has been struggling in cup competitions having lost in the round of 16 last season of the Carling Knockout Cup and a round of 32 of the Nedbank Cup.

Tinkler is hoping for a trophy this season, with their Carling Knockout campaign set to kick off this evening, while they also still have the Nedbank Cup and the Betway Premiership to play for.

Both sides already faced each other on the Betway Premiership opener when the match ended in a 1-1 draw, but Tinkler insisted this time his side need to charge of their home fixture.

“We played them not so long ago in the league where unfortunately we only managed to get a draw so obviously what becomes important is we playing at home, we go out there we play with a lot of energy, intensity and look to try and get ourselves into next round of the Carling Cup,” Tinkler told the media.

“This season we would like to see ourselves collecting one of the trophies so this is an opportunity that we need to try and grab with both hands.

“We know very well it’s not gonna be easy, all the games are gonna be tough [but] when you’re an ambitious club like us you got to step up and that’s what we gonna do and ensure that we see ourselves into the next round of the competition.”
