Banyana Seal COSAFA Semis Spot In Emphatic Fashion

Banyana Banyana wrapped up their group stage campaign at the COSAFA Women’s Championship with a perfect record after thumping Seychelles 8-1 at Madibaz Stadium in Gqeberha on Monday afternoon.

Coach Maud Khumalo also topped Group A after recording wins against Namibia (1-0) and Eswatini (3-0), having scored 12 goals and conceding just once.

South Africa came into the game having already qualified from the first two group matches. Coach Khumalo kept five players from the squad that defeated Eswatini 3-0. Kesha Hendricks scored a first half brace while Ntando Phahla, Tshegofatso Motlogelwa and Sinamile Mkhwanazi also adding to the tally as the half ended 5-0 for the hosts.

There weren’t changes from both sides in the second halfas South Africa picked up from where they left off with Hendricks completing her hat-trick six minutes into the second period.

A minute later, Ayesha Moosa scored Banyan’s seventh before Mkhwanazi completed her brace when she netted Banyana’s eighth in the 55th minute.

South Africa gave away a cheap penalty with 15 minutes left on the clock and Pascaline Moustache converted to score a historic goal for the debutants as the match ended 8-1.
