Banyana Banyana head coach Dr Desiree Ellis admits that her charges need no motivation ahead of their friendly international against World Cup finalists and current European champions England this evening.
South Africa concludes their European tour against the Lionesses after being put to the sword with a 5-0 humbling by Denmark while Sarina Wiegman’s side also lost their tie 4-3 against Germany.
Banyana are currently in preparation of the defence of their African title next year in Morocco and have also been boosted by the arrival of four overseas-based players who missed the defeat against the Danes due to permit issues.
Ellis says her charges want to give a better account of themselves at the Coventry Arena and they always want to prove themselves against better opposition.
“I don’t think you need to motivate anyone to play a top opponent like England,” Ellis told Safa.net.

“You know they were the World Cup finalists; they are the current European champions. I think for every player, you need to play against the very best. It’s an opportunity now to say listen we had certain challenges in the previous game but let’s show what we can do against a better team, let’s raise our hands, let’s put up a better performance because that’s what we are looking for.
“We are always looking for improved performances because at the end of the day it’s all about preparing the WAFCON and sometimes results or a performance doesn’t go your way but it’s what you take out of that, you know performance and result in the next game and that’s what we are looking for.”
The two sides will meet at 21:45.
