Larsen Provides Motupa Update Ahead Of Chiefs Clash

Magesi FC head coach Clinton Larsen has confirmed that former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Gift Motupa has suffered a hamstring injury as they prepare for Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday.

Motupa joined Magesi at the beginning of the season following his short stint at Baroka FC with the 30-year-old so far just making two appearances against Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City before suffering a minor set-back.

With the likes of Wonderboy Makhubu, who is on loan from Babina Noko, Edmore Chirambandare, Rhulani Manzini, and Menzi Ndwandwe leading the attacking line, Larsen emphasized that Motupa will have to work hard to get into the team.

“He has made one appearance so far but as I said earlier in the season his fitness level ain’t where we want it to be,” Larsen told the media.

“He lost a lot of weight, and he is a lot fitter than he was before but last week he picked up an injury just before the Pirates game, he got a hamstring injury.

“So, he missed a week of training and he could’ve been possibly in contention for selection for this game [against Chiefs] but he is working very hard and I think we all know Gift’s quality.

“A fit Gift Motupa, I always talk about a fit Gift Motupa because an unfit Gift Motupa I won’t use him he will become a liability to the way I want the team to play, so for me he knows what he has to do to get up to speed and once he does that he will fight for a place in the team.”

The 30-year-old got injured just before their famous Carling Knockout Cup victory over Orlando Pirates and will now also sit out the Chiefs clash.
