De Jong Looking To Take CAFCC Form Into Chiefs Game

Stellenbosch FC midfielder Andre De Jong is hoping the team will take their CAF Confederation Cup form into tonight’s game against Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.

Steve Barker’s team have spent the past week in Gauteng, having to play their CAFCC games at Loftus Stadium due to the unavailability of the DHL Stadium, the only CAF-approved stadium in the Western Cape.

Chiefs actually played in Cape Town last Sunday, in the 1-0 loss to Cape Town City, while at the same time Stellies were beating CD Lunda Sol 2-0 at the same time in Tshwane. They will host Stade Malien at the same venue on the weekend.

But De Jong says their focus now is first on Chiefs, and looking to get a good result.

“The mood in camp is nice and positive,” De Jong told the club’s media department.

“We’ve been together in Gauteng since Saturday and I think everyone is in a good space and looking forward to capping off the week with a good result against Kaizer Chiefs.

“It’s a massively important match for us, primarily because of the congestion around us in the league table and also because this will be our only league match in January because of our CAF commitments, so we need to get maximum points.”

De Jong goes into the game in good form, having scored both goals in Sunday’s CAFCC win.

“Personally, it was very nice to have contributed with a couple of goals against Lunda Sul, but more importantly to get the three points in the group that has set us up nicely for the [next CAF] game on Sunday against Stade Malien,” De Jong continued.

“Our focus has shifted to (Wednesday’s) match against Kaizer Chiefs first though, and I think we’ve been buoyed by a big result from the weekend and hopefully we can carry our recent CAF form into the league.”
