Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns have found out which teams they can face in the CAF Champions League Last-8 after all eight quarter-finalists were confirmed.

The Buccaneers secured top spot in Group C with a statement win against record champions Al Ahly, meaning they will now face one of the runners-up from the other three groups, as CAF rules state.

  • The four group winners and the four runners-up shall qualify for the quarter-finals. Clubs that were together in the same group will not meet again during the quarter-final matches.
  • The four group winners shall meet the four runners-up in the quarter final. A drawing of lots will be done after the group matches to determine the opponents of the quarter-final as well as the semi-final and final.
  • The runners-ups shall play the first leg matches of the quarter-finals at home.

As a consequence, Jose Riveiro’s men could meet MC Alger, who finished in second place behind Al-Hilal in Group A.

Another potential opponent are Pyramids after the Egyptian giants finished level on points in Group D, but behind Esperance de Tunis based on the worse head-to-head record.

Last but not least, the Buccaneers could also be drawn against PSL rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, who finished in second place in Group B after drawing 1-1 with AS FAR.

Meanwhile, the Sundowns could also face Group A winners Al-Hilal, or Group D leaders Eperance de Tunis.

CAF are yet to confirm when the quarter-finals draw will take place.
