Riveiro Remains Coy On Saleng & Squad Updates

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted it’s not in his job description to give health updates on players like Monnapule Saleng, when asked about the where-abouts of the winger.

Saleng had a great start at Pirates this campaign, scoring five goals in 13 games, including one in the MTN8 final, but has last featured for the club in December against Al Ahly.

His recent absence from the squad has come into question with speculation rife about his long-term future at Mayfair.

Riveiro was asked about an update on the player’s situation as well as a general injury update on his squad before facing Baroka in the Nedbank Cup, but refused to dive into any details, saying the club will provide that information when they feel it is necessary.

“I don’t speak about health of my players, it’s something that belongs in the private space,” he stated when asked about Saleng and other sidelined players.

“The moment that the club feels it’s the time to speak about which players are injured, how long it’s going to take, which step of the process, they do it.

“It’s not in my job description to – like I said – it’s not an ethic thing. I know it would be nice to know how close is Olisa [Ndah] or [Goodman] Mosele and what’s happening with Saleng but it’s not gonna happen [here].
