Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that he believes Themba Zwane will return to playing before the FIFA Club World Cup.
Zwane, 35, suffered a partial tear of his Achilles tendon while on international duty with Bafana Bafana in October, which has limited him to only 229 minutes of football for Sundowns this season.
He’s been spotted in recent weeks back in training, and Cardoso has now discussed whether Mshishi will be able to return back to full fitness before the end of the season.
“For sure, Themba will recover in time, not only for the World Cup but to play before,” he stated.
“We have expectations to recover him, Mothobi [Mvala], Divine [Lunga], [Khuliso] Mudau in different steps, but they will come sooner than that [World Cup].
“Let’s hope, because there is one thing that is physical recovery to play football, another thing is football to perform there are more steps to do.
“We should also understand that, it’s not just he can train with the team [and immediately play], but is he able to play a game or games like this, that’s another thing. We have to prepare him for that.
“It’s not the same with Mudau, who stopped for one month, or Divine who stopped three weeks. For Themba that’s four months [he was out]. So that process will take a little bit longer.

“But he’s working he’s working very good, that’s what I’m demanding from all of them. Expectations are good. Let’s hope we can reduce the timing, so he can play before the World Cup.”
Sundowns are already back in action on Wednesday, when they will face third-placed Sekhukhune United.
