Notoane Breaks Down How Downs Lost To CT City

Mamelodi Sundowns DStv Diski Challenge head coach breaks down how they lost to Cape Town City in a five-goal thriller.

City brought themselves back into the title talk after beating Sundowns in a five-goal thriller at Malta Sports Ground in Cape Town.

City led 2-0 going into the break, but Sundowns pulled one back late in the second half unfortunately they conceded the third one following a blunder from the goalkeeper late and Gamolemo Kekana’s goal was not enough to secure at least a point for Sundowns.

Notoane admitted that they were not good in the first half as they didn’t make the right decisions also a bit disappointed in how they couldn’t break down City with Kutlwano Letlhaku and Thapelo Maseko on the wings.

City promised Sundowns that they would beat them in Cape Town when they lost 5-1 in Tshwane late last year and indeed the Citizens delivered denting Sundown’s title hopes.

“We give them minutes it is part of the process, it’s part of the project we struggled without build-up play, and when we came out, we struggled to find the right pass, when we found the right pass to Kutlwano and Maseko, we couldn’t get the right dribble, penetration and create chances from there so you are right we didn’t create enough and also a problem we conceded soft goals in the first half, to be honest, and you saw the third goal itself,” Notoane told iDiski Times.

“I told them in the half we gonna come back in the game we will change few things and then we have to get an early goal to try to keep us in the game.

“When it was 2-0 I still had belief and hope that we could come back in the game, we had the ball, we were back to the Sundowns game that dominates position that plays with rhythm, of course, lots of technical mistakes we can’t keep away an eye on that after scoring 2-1 we gave them another present but they are young boys they will learn from this.

“We have to be humble; we have to accept that we not entitled to win all matches, we have to work hard to win games.

“Cape Town City worked very hard today and they know the medicine we gave them in the first game in Tshwane and they promised us that they would wait for us to come to Cape Town, so we didn’t respond unfortunately.”
