Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe has discussed the importance of winger Oswin Appollis in the side saying the player’s impact in the club is the reason he wants more players to be selected in their national teams.
Appollis was fresh from international duty with Bafana Bafana where he was key in South Africa’s win over Benin in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier last week.
The 23-year-old was also influential in City’s 3-1 win over Richards Bay at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. playing a part in the opening and winning goals. The result saw Rise and Shine in sixth position on the Betway Premiership log with equal on 34 points with provincial rivals Sekhukhune United ahead of them but with the latter having a game in hand.
Mohafe labelled Appollis’ performance against the Natal Rich Boyz as massive while adding that he gets impressed when his international stars don’t drop the bar at club level.
“That is why we work so hard for them to go to the national teams,” Mohafe answered iDiski Times.

“This is the kind of aspects that we are looking from them when they come back to say, guys, ‘listen this is what we have achieved with the national team so can we rub it with you guys at home’. And we accept that with both hands.
“So, he was massive today, not only with the goals, but with the performance also. So, he shows that he’s an international player and he needs to keep the standard.”
