Durban City Shares Spoils, Kruger Narrows Gap At Top

League leaders Durban City dropped two crucial points after a 1-1 draw with Pretoria University, while Kruger United took advantage of that with a 2-1 victory after beating Milford FC.

It’s heating up in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and Durban City once again let themselves down against AmaTuks after the KwaZulu-Natal-based side took the lead through Samkelo Maseko in the first half. The home side equalized on the stroke of halftime via Tshepang Makara as City remained at the top with 46 points, with six games remaining.

Kruger came from a goal down to beat Milford FC after the hosts took the lead in the 12th minute after Mvelo Zikakayo headed home. With nine minutes left before the final whistle, Bright Ndlovu levelled matters for the away side and scored the winner in the 94th minute to make it 2-1 and seal the three points. United are now just six adrift of Durban City.

In the relegation battle in the Mother City, Cape Town Spurs shared the spoils with Leruma United. United scored in the 69th minute after a lovely free kick. With five minutes remaining, Luke Baartman scored the equalizer before Spurs were denied the woodwork in the 90th minute.

The Northern Cape derby between Upington City and Hungry Lions saw the Lions claiming all three points away from home ending their five-match winless run. Meanwhile, Brandon Truter’s side suffered their fourth straight defeat and dropped to 13th place just three points above the relegation spot.
