Riveiro Sends Message To Khoza

Former Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro says he is thankful towards club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza and the management for caring for him throughout his tenure at the club.

Riveiro took charge of his last match as the Buccaneers coach a 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows in Orlando on Tuesday evening in the league bringing the curtain down on a two and half year impressive stint at the club. Under his guidance the club has clinched five domestic cups, finished second in the league in two seasons and also reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.

The Spaniard who already confirmed his departure earlier in the year asked to be released early from his contract as he has already signed for a new club. The 49 year old reflected on the relationship he enjoyed with the management including the chairman saying felt they really care for him even in his last minutes.

“I don’t think it’s about me saying something recently,” said Riveiro.

“I think in this case with the whole management of the club I think we managed during these three years to have an open relation and honest one. I don’t know how to say. I think in this case, the chairman, I think he’s taking care of me basically with what he’s doing.

“He really cares, the management as well they really care about me and about my future, and what they are doing is something generous, and it’s something that they consider that is also fair with me and with my time here in Pirates and with my service.

“So they were taking care of me since day one, and they are still now that I’m leaving trying to take care of their coach. And I’m a thankful person, so is something that I really appreciate, something that I will never forget, something that makes me feel, you know, really, really comfortable and happy.”
