Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns wrapped up their 2024/25 campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over Magesi FC at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday evening.
The champions wasted no time in opening the scoring as Lucas Ribeiro pounced on a goalmouth scramble to make it 1-0 in the fourth minute.
In the 13th minute, Iqraam Rayners’ header crashed off the post with Elvis Chipezeze well beaten before he was then denied by the Zimbabwean shotstopper in a one-on-one situation six minutes later.
Sundowns made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute and it was the Brazilian who curled his effort into the top left corner with Chipezeze rooted still, taking his goal tally in the league to 16 goals.
Teboho Mokoena was then denied his goal in the 36th minute after he rattled his set-piece against the base of the post with Chipezeze in no man’s land once again.
The second period didn’t really live up to how the first half ended, and so it ended with two unanswered goals from Miguel Cardoso’s charges who matched their points tally from last season (73).
Arthur Sales had one more chance to increase the lead in the 85th minute but scuffed his shot from close range.
They now switch their focus to the two-legged CAF Champions League final against Pyramids FC of Egypt before jetting off to the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup.
