Nabi Defiant After Missing Out On MTN8

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has insisted he will not dramatise missing out on the MTN8 after finishing the 2024/25 league campaign outside the top eight.

Amakhosi failed to beat Polokwane City at FNB Stadium on Saturday, meaning they finished their campaign on 32 points from 28.

While Chiefs missed out on the top eight, Polokwane City booked their spot with 34 points. However, Nabi insisted he should not only be judged on the league but also the success in the Nedbank Cup – and insisted his side could’ve finished in third place if they had a goalscoring striker.

“I’m not going to be influenced by today’s result and undermine what the team has won this season,” he told SuperSport TV.

“FIFA recognises two champions, the one who wins the league and the one who wins the cup.

“I think nobody can undermine what the team has done this season, they won a cup when we were 10 years without a trophy. But for me it’s not even about the 10 years, for me wins an official title from the FIFA.

“I regret not being in the MTN8, but it’s a process – this is a transition season. I give more importance to the model of the my game. The problem of the team is goal scoring and efficiency.

“If we have a striker [that scores] maybe I’m number three this season. For that I won’t dramatise. I’m not happy where we finished.

“But after we won Nedbank Cup I said the same, I was happy we won the cup but for me important is the process, I don’t change every game.

“I’m not defending myself, I know my position with committee and the direction, we now know what we need as a team. I think we progressed because we understand exactly what we need as a team.

“We are not in MTN8, but I won’t dramatise. We won the Nedbank and we made a big step in process.”
