The Banyana Banyana trio of Bambanani Mbane, Karabo Dhlamini and captain Refiloe Jane have been named in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) team of the tournament.
Mbane and Dhlamini are in the team’s backline along with Nigeria’s Michelle Alozie and Ghanaian captain Portia Boakye.
‘Fifinho’ was named in the heart of the midfield flanked by Ghana’s Grace Asantewaa and the tournament’s top goal scorer Ghizlane Chebbak of Morocco. The Moroccan skipper won the Golden Boot award for a second successive edition with five goals as her side also finished second at the tournament in as many events in a row.
The frontline comprises of two Super Falcons players in Esther Okoronkwo and captain Rasheedat Ajibade. The Atletico Madrid forward was also named the Player of the Tournament.
Moroccan striker Ibtissam Jraidi completes the attack while Chiamaka Nnadozie of Nigeria, who was also named Goalkeeper of the Tournament, also cracked the nod.
