Appollis On Superb Pirates Debut

New Orlando Pirates winger Oswin Appollis gave credit to his teammates after an excellent debut against his former team Polokwane City.

Appollis, 23, made his debut for Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-final clash against Polokwane City and managed to score the opening goal before creating a penalty, which Patrick Maswanganyi slotted home to make it 2-0.

“I am very happy but I have to give credit to my teammates, without them I couldn’t score and I couldn’t get this award, so this award is going to the whole team,” Appollis told SuperSportTV.

“It is very strange [feeling to score vs old team], I had to move and I am happy to be at Orlando Pirates.

“We’ve been working hard the whole week and even in Spain so everything just came together today so we have to give credit to the whole team.”

Appollis also insisted the penalty was correctly given as he was touched in the box before Maswanganyi stepped up to make it 2-0.

“Yes, the touch was there. I tried to kick the ball and he touched me from behind, so it was a penalty,” he added.

It was also the first official game for new Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who was previously with Marumo Gallants. The Moroccan becomes the first Moroccan coach to lead Pirates after replacing Jose Riveiro.
