New Mamelodi Sundowns signing Fawaaz Basadien has described his first game for the club as a ‘dream debut’.
Basadien completed a big money move to Masandawana during the current transfer window from Stellenbosch FC, becoming the third player from the Cape Winelands outfit in as many seasons to join the Betway Premiership champions after Iqraam Rayners and Jayden Adams.
The 28-year-old left-back was a 78th-minute introduction for Zuko Mdunyelwa as they thumped Richards Bay 4-0 to reach the MTN8 semis.
Basadien has since spoken about making his debut for his new employers making mention of how his new colleagues integrated him into the squad.
“It’s an honour and privilege to make my debut for such a club as Mamelodi Sundowns, I look forward to it,” he told the club’s media.
“Once I got into the field all the players they made feel comfortable. They just wanted me to touch the ball, to get comfortable on the ball.
“But it was just a dream debut for me I couldn’t wait for it. I’ve been looking to make this debut and fortunately for me it happened today.
“I enjoyed every single minute of it and like I said as soon as I came in the guys they wanted to give me the ball, they wanted me to get on the ball, so I enjoyed it.
“Obviously, wanted to get more minutes but for now it’s good to get some touches on the ball and get playing with the guys.”
The Bafana Bafana international also took time to talk about his target for the new season as well delivering a message for the club’s fans.
“For me, target is to play regularly help out the team obviously achieve more, win more trophies,” he said.
“But my main thing is just to help the team – getting assists and keeping clean sheets.
“Trying to reach the team’s objectives and hopefully win titles as well.
“I just wanna say thank you to all the supporters coming out today. I was looking forward to playing in front of them and they made me feel welcome since I came here.
“Just such a joy and honour to play for such a team with incredible supporters.
“I just wanna thank them again for coming out and we appreciate them.”
