Williams Opens Up On Mood In Dressing Room Ahead Of Chiefs

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Ronwen Williams has opened up about the mood in his side’s camp ahead of tonight’s match against Kaizer Chiefs, saying it’s not the best.

This comes after Sundowns’ elimination from the MTN8 by Orlando Pirates who defeated them 4-1 on penalties after their semi-final 2nd leg match ended 1-1.

The Bafana Bafana skipper says even though they are hurting, they have a rule to not drag it too far as they want to continue doing well in the league against a Chiefs side that has a perfect record so far.

“Obviously, not a good space to be in now you can see the guys are still a bit down,” said Williams.

“The mood is not one of the best. Obviously, we had big objectives to start the campaign on a positive note, which is to go all the way in the MTN8, but it wasn’t to be. We just have to dust ourselves off and go again.

“The mood is not the best, but we had a nice reflection. We had a nice meeting to see the good and the bad moments of the past game and to reflect and just to move forward now. There’s a lot of lessons, tough lessons to take out of the defeat. We are all hurting. We are sad, our supporters we are all in this together. We are all feeling the effects of getting knocked out. So, we just need to draw positives and draw just some love and support from one another in this difficult moment.

“And today was just to get back to the field, to keep going, to work on the next game. It’s a big assignment coming up against Kaizer Chiefs one that we are looking forward to. For us, you know, we’ve got a rule at the club after a match you have 24 hours, either to be sad, or 24 hours to celebrate. And once that is passed it’s time to focus and look forward to the next match.”
